South Devon
Our trip to Devon, August 2005. I could spend moths down here - somthing to do all the time. We were there for a week and only had time to explore the south. Very cheap holiday, as I have family in Buckfastleigh.
The peer of Torquay.
Did you knw that the Devonian word Tor means a hill or outcrop, especially common in placenames on nearby Dartmoor. - see more here.
The fountain of Torquay.
Wish the weather was better for this pic!
This is an island that extends out into the River Dart in Totnes.
Nice little spot where we ate lunch - could have stayed for hours!
Another view of the River Dart from the central bridge in Totnes.
You should have seen the width of the bridge I am stood on - very close to being run-over!
A view from the steam train that runs from Buckfastleigh to Totnes.
This was great - old fashioned carriages and all run by O.A.P's who obviously spend their lives on this railway! Keeps em' off the streets at least!
Some old fashioned luggage at Totnes station.
Can you imagine travelling with these things!
A marble machine - hours of fun!
In Bovey Tracey there is the 'House of Marbles'.
This machine is worth well over £1000!
The view from Haytor - Dartmoor.
Haytor is a very popular climbing spot in Dartmoor- great fun!
Entrance to Busckfast Abbey.
Very famous abbey - we watched the monk's mid-day service - very special to watch.
Stained glass window in the abbey.
This window was hand made by the resitdent monks.
